I love these smoked lemon pepper wings because they're crispy, smoky, and zesty. We're finishing them off with a buttery, lemony glaze that takes them to the next level.
The best part? You only need four ingredients to make them. Simple, but packed with flavor.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO MAKE THIS RECIPE
- Chicken Wings — I picked up a 1.5 lb. pack of Bell & Evens pre-cut wings
- Lemon Pepper Seasoning — this seasoning is zesty and peppery all at once
- Mayonnaise — to act as the binder for the seasoning, it also adds a little extra moisture to the wings
- Butter — we're finishing the wings in some melted butter because butter makes everything taste better
HOW TO MAKE SMOKED LEMON PEPPER WINGS
1. Prepare the Wings
Pat the wings dry with a paper towel, Then, apply mayo to both sides of each wing.
2. Season the Wings
Season the wings liberally on both sides with the lemon pepper seasoning.
3. Smoke the Wings
Smoke the wings at 250F until they hit an internal temperature of 175F, which should take about two hours. Crank the temp up on the smoker to 400F for the final 10 minutes to help crisp up the skin.
4. Make the Lemon Pepper Sauce
While the wings are cooking, make the lemon pepper sauce in a small saucepan. Melt 4 tablespoons of butter, and then stir in a teaspoon of lemon pepper seasoning.
5. Toss & Serve
Toss the wings in the lemon pepper sauce until they're nice and coated. Serve with homemade ranch or homemade blue cheese.
PRO TIPS FOR MAKING THIS RECIPE
- Crisp up the skin. Nobody likes rubbery skin on a wing. You can crisp them up by cranking the heat to 400F on your smoker for the final 10 minutes of the cook. Or use a sear gun and blast them with the flame for a few minutes each side.
- Use cooking spray instead of mayo. If you don't like the idea of using mayo as a binder (even though it's delicious), you can skip it and use a little cooking spray instead. The idea is just to get the lemon pepper seasoning to adhere to the wings really well.
