This viral chopped Italian sandwich combines finely chopped deli meats, cheese, veggies, and tangy dressing into a perfectly tossed mixture, scooped into a soft sub roll. It’s an easy, flavor-packed lunchtime favorite.
SERVINGS
Servings: 1 sandwich
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup iceberg lettuce shredded
  • 3 slices capicola
  • 3 slices salami
  • 3 slices pepperoni
  • 3 slices ham
  • 2 slices provolone cheese
  • 2 tbsp red onion finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp banana peppers
  • 1 tbsp hot pepper relish
  • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 sub roll

Instructions

  • Lay the shredded lettuce, deli meats (capicola, salami, pepperoni, ham), cheese, red onion, and banana peppers on a large cutting board. Finely chop everything together until evenly mixed.
  • Drizzle the chopped mixture with red wine vinegar and olive oil. Add the hot pepper relish, a dollop of mayonnaise, and a sprinkle of Italian seasoning. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Use a knife or your hands to thoroughly mix everything together on the cutting board until evenly coated.
  • Place the sub roll directly on top of the mixture. Use your hands or a spatula to scoop the filling into the roll, pressing it in gently to hold its shape.
  • Slice the sandwich in half (optional) and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Make It Your Own. Use mortadella or prosciutto for different deli meat options—this Italian is truly meant to be customized to however you like it.
  • Bread Options. A seeded Italian roll or ciabatta would also work really well with this recipe. Toasting the bread after to make it panini-style also crossed my mind when making this.
